There’s a little ditty sung by Mr. Frank Sinatra that has the following lyrics:
“Getting to know you, getting to know all about you, Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me, Getting to know you, putting it my way, but nicely, You are my cup of tea. Getting to know you, getting to feel free and easy, When I am with you, getting to know what to say. Haven’t you noticed? Suddenly I’m bright and breezy, Because of all the beautiful things and new things I’m learning about you day by day.”
2009 marks the 10th year of our friendship (I swear it, time FLIES when you are having fun. We’ve had a lot). In the course of this short decade I have learned so many things that make me appreciate and love Luc more. In an effort to introduce her to the blogosphere, I told her I wanted to interview her.
Anybody who knows me knows I like to question….hmmm, just about everything. I studied Communications in college, and am convinced that the constant questioning is really just the inner nagging reporter that I never got to be. So. Luc, I’m interviewing you.
The following are 20 questions – designed to pick your brain & introduce the you that I cherish to whoever might stumble upon us:
(My replies are in, well, another color that I haven’t decided on yet. This is def. a work in progress because some of these are going to take some actual thought. Luc.)
1. Which celebrity would you like to be stranded on an island with?

Jon Hamm or Ricky Gervais. One to look at & one to laugh with. If you’re going to make me pick just one, it would actually be Rick Gervais (Look! I have some substance.)
2. Which time period in American History do you wish you’d lived through?
From WWII to the early 60s. I think I was born about 30 years too late.
3. Which of the 5 senses is your favorite?
Seriously, I think it’s smell.
4. What is your dream job?
I think I could be blissfully happy surrounded by old things every day so probably working in a museum.
5. What is your secret hidden talent?
I don’t think I have one.
6. What store in your local mall is the complete antithesis of who you are (one for looks, one for personality)?
I need your help on this one! Although, I think, perhaps Chico’s is the opposite of my personality. I don’t know why exactly, but I have a pretty strong feeling on this.
7. What song do you typically sing in the shower?
I never ever sing anywhere.
8. What song do you want played at your funeral?
September When It Comes by Roseanne & Johnny Cash
Somewhere Over The Rainbow (but sadly, it has to be this particular version)
9. What is your favorite color?
lime green and orange
10. What’s the worst physical injury you’ve ever had? How did it happen?
Breaking my toe while putting on a pair of jeans. Go ahead and laugh. It’s okay.
11. What’s in your pocket at this exact moment?
cell phone & lip balm
12. What is your favorite literary quote?
Okay I have a lot so I’ll try to narrow down to just a couple:
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
“Janie starched and ironed her face and came set in the funeral behind her veil. It was like a wall of stone and steel. The funeral was going on outside. All things concerning death and burial were said and done. Finish. End. Nevermore. Darkness. Deep hole. Dissolution. Eternity. Weeping and wailing outside. Inside the expensive black folds were resurrection and life. She did not reach outside for anything, nor did the things of death reach inside to disturb her calm. She sent her face to Joe’s funeral, and herself went rollicking with the springtime across the world. After a while the people finished their celebration and Janie went on home.”
God Bless You Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut
“Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies—God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
Bridget Jones Diary by Helen Fielding (this never fails to make me laugh whenever it crosses my mind)
“It struck me as pretty ridiculous to be called Mr. Darcy and to stand on your own looking snooty at a party. It’s like being called Heathcliff and insisting on spending the entire evening in the garden, shouting ‘Cathy’ and banging your head against a tree.”
13. What is your favorite beauty product?
Smith’s Rosebud Lip Salve & Too Faced Snow Bunny
14. What is one charity you would like more people to support?
Anything at all. Just that everyone would get passionate about something.
15. What makes you laugh?
Sarcasm, irony, Jane Austen, a man with a wiseass mouth and this:
Oh, are they? never fails to make me laugh & as a result I will nurse a neverending crush on Jason Schwartzman til the day I die.
16. What makes you cry?
Kurt Vonnegut, Scrubs, Election Night 2008 (and those were tears of joy), The Carousel scene of Mad Men, The Things They Carried, Knocked Up, Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah, Cool Hand Luke, Junebug, the memorial service for Cedric Diggory in The Goblet of Fire, the final battle of The Deathly Hallows. Yep, The Notebook-not a tear to be shed…give me some Harry Potter though & I’m a blubbery mess.
17. How do you feel about the direction our country is headed in?
Hopeful, but then again I’m still in the throes of Obamania so wait til the novelty wears off.
18. How do you feel about the direction the “church” is headed in? (Not nescessarily COG, just the churched in America)
I just don’t even feel qualified to answer that. It’s too complex for me to handle…
19. When you were a child, what was your most embarrassing moment?
Wow! I recall being mortified on a semi-regular basis. I’ll have to think on that.
20. Where were you when you knew, without a doubt, that God existed?
I’ll be completely honest, I don’t know anything for sure, but that doesn’t stop me from hoping and believing.
And two more for fun (told you, I question constantly – it’s hard to stop):
21. What was the defining moment for you that our friendship was rock solid?
Our shared love of Matt Damon. The fact that I still feel just as close to you now even after moving.
22. Share your funniest/most favorite memory/event of our friendship.
There are too many…any of the aftermath regarding “The Fire” would have to be up there. Ugly sweaters, my father-in-law’s numerous gaffes, Pat’s wide hips, using the projector to watch Pride & Prejudice at the office when the bosses were out of town, the absolute delirium of working til midnight during camp and laughing at nothing and everything.
And there you have it, ladies and gentleman:
TA DAAAAAA……….. LUCIANA.
PS – way to go girl, that wasn’t too painful was it??
